Dynamic Water Adventure For those looking for high-octane excitement, nothing will compete with the playground of water thrills and swimming pools in the 17 hectares (42 acre) Aquaventure being built at the resort. Aquaventure will position Atlantis, The Palm as the largest water-themed attraction in the region and will be the hottest spot to cool off with sun decks and water fun within the 25,000 m3 (5.5 million gallon) waterscape. This non-stop water experience consists of several extraordinary rides, extensive river ride action with cascades, tidal waves and rapids. The lush tropical landscape is traversed by over two kilometres of fresh water adventure; called The Current which will circumnavigate and lead into the thrilling Mesopotamian styled Ziggurat which will stand magnificently proud in the centre of the action, reaching 30 m (100 feet) into the sky. The Ziggurat will feature seven heart pumping water slides – two of which catapult riders through a lagoon filled with sharks. The Leap of Faith slide will offer the daring and very adventurous, a 27.5 m (90 feet) almost sheer vertical drop from the top of the Ziggurat, propelling the body surfing riders at a terrific speed through a clear acrylic tunnel submerged in the shark-filled lagoon. The Serpent slide, 13 m (42 feet) up the Ziggurat, will spin its riders into the blackness of the tower’s mysterious core before emerging through the shark-filled tank at a leisurely ‘shark-viewing’ pace. The Drop, The Falls and The Surge will all be inner tube slides using ‘master-blaster’ technology, which effectively creates a water roller coaster, propelling riders on jets of water, up and downhill throughout the Aquaventure. Other slides, for younger riders or those with more trepidation, offer a gentler trip into pools connected by still other water adventures, where riders can glide through the lush landscape or ride The Wave tidal river. For those too young to enjoy the adventures of the Ziggurat and surrounding Current, there will be Splashers, a wonderfully designed children’s play area with pools that will have elaborate water games, slides and structures, providing a world of thrills and lots of water spills for children less than 137 cm (54 inches) and their parents. Among the other swimming areas which will be available is the Royal Pool, the Zero Entry Pool and of course the uninterrupted 1.4kms (0.9 miles) of magnificent Royal Towers and Aquaventure beaches, with the balmy waters of the Arabian Gulf to enjoy. For the bonne vivant, the water experiences will not end with Aquaventure. Atlantis, The Palm will be opening its doors in 2008 to the Dolphin Bay, a state-of-the-art dolphin education centre and interaction habitat which is being created to bring enlightenment and education to visitors about one of the oceans most fascinating and memorable inhabitants. Atlantis guests will have the opportunity to meet and interact with one of the world’s most charismatic animals in an unparalleled encounter programme that will be enriching for both the guests and the dolphins. |
